The Wimp Development System for Risc OS

Tutorial 3 - The Archive Screensaver/Screenlock

Introduction

This program was originally developed so that when I bought the first RISCOS colour laptop, I would have a simple security program that was individual to me. Of course fate intervened, and the laptop never appeared. The program was used on my main Pc for a number of years, and was transformed into the two programs presented here. The original program allowed the changing of passwords within the program, but with the advent of the RISC OS screensavers, the correct way to do it was to split the program into two elements Svrsetup, and the screensaver.

The articles which follow were written for Archive magazine. The content presented here is basiclly the same but with a few additional graphics to help you develope the program. The archive disc contents also appear here for download if you can't be bothered. The ready compiled applications also appear in articles 2 and 3.

The article is split into 3 parts :

Part 1 :Developing the windows.
Part 2 :Adding the code.
Part 3 :Writing the screensaver.

The first two articles are relatively simple. Part 3 has some useful and interesting techniques, especially interfacing with RISC OS itself.

Happy programming!!
