KATHERINE BICKNELL (flute)

Katherine Bicknell started playing the flute at the age of nine. She achieved Grade 8 with distinction at 14, and was a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music from 1995 to 1998; she became principal flute of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras touring Hungary, Germany and Austria.

Katherine is currently in her fourth year at the Royal College of Music, studying flute with Susan Milan and Piccolo with Stewart MacIlwham, and often playing principal flute with the Sinfonietta, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Katherine is also a member of the Marylebone Chamber Orchestra, the Clarion Ensemble, the Amphion Ensemble, the Sinfonia of Westminster and the Aoyama duo with Keziah Thomas.

Katherine has won many prizes during her time at the Royal College of Music including the Sally Wainwright prize (1998), the Adrian Cruft prize (1999, 2001), the Douglas Whittaker prize (1999), the Geoffrey Tankard prize (2001) and the Eve Kisch prize (2001). Her appearance with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra is the result of her winning the overall Concerto Award at the Ealing Festival in May, 2001.
