HUGH MATHER (piano)

Hugh Mather

Hugh Mather played the piano and organ from an early age, winning gold and silver medals in Associated Board exams. He obtained the FRCO diploma, with the Limpus and Reid prizes, when aged 18, and the ARCM (piano performers) diploma. He gained scholarships to study medicine at Cambridge and Westminster Medical School, and continued his piano studies with James Gibb at the Guildhall School of Music.

Hugh was appointed Consultant Physician at Ealing Hospital in 1982. Since then he has maintained his musical career in addition to his medical work, giving many concerts in West London as a soloist, chamber music player and accompanist. He has organised weekly concerts at Ealing Hospital for many years, and these are now an integral part of musical life in Ealing.
