Switch access:

What is switch scanning access?
scanning is 'a technique for the sequential display of a group of items to be selected from a set using a small number of switches' (after Nisbet and Boon: Special Access Technlogy)

Practice in switch scanning:
ChooseItMaker from Inclusive technology allows the creation of simple 3/4 cell scanning practice grids.
Clicker can also be used for the creation of specific scanning activities. To create scanning access to normal multimedia CDroms you will need to use Clickit(Itellitools/Inclusive technology) or the Discovery switch system (Don Johnson).

Some example switch scanning grids created with ChooseItmaker:
ChooseItmaker allows simple scanning grids (single or double switch scanning) to be easily constructed. The correct choice is already choosen in the construction, the sound and visual rewards are already set up for you. You can easily record your own speech to each grid to identify the correct cell

For example you can set up a three cell scanning grid with three pictures one of which is the 'correct' one. The program will only give the sound/visual reward when the correct cell is accessed. It will then go onto the next page (if there is one or show the same page again)

furthermore the program will shuffle the images around at random so the correct cell changes postion after each go.

grids can have 2, 3, 6 cells. You can include as many pages as you like
The program only responds to correct inputs. The sound and visual rewards are fixed but you can vary the length of time that they are displayed.
A grid can include digital pictures, symbols

or numbers:

You can add an auditory question for the correct cell from within the program, for example the grid above said "what is one plus one"
ChooseItmaker comes with a number of practice grids, sound and graphic resources which it shares with SwitchItmaker.

However it doesn't include the ability to make auditory scanning grids. You will need Clicker or Windows switch to do this.
It also allows the mouse to be an input and includes the ability to make the mouse arrow very large. It doesn't have a 'mouse over' facility.
ChooseItMaker has enabled us to make a whole range of practice scanning grids very easily (which used to be a rather lengthy process).
