International "Bastard" Rules for Uno©
Standard Rules
- Players take turns to place one card at a time on the stack.
- A card may only be played if it is the same colour as that uppermost on the stack - or if it has the same number.
- Black cards may be played at any time as may be reverse, freeze, and "+2" cards.
- Players unable to go must draw a card from the spare pile.
- Players must announce their last card by announcing "Uno".
The "Astley Street" extensions
- Seven cards are dealt to each player. Any deviance from this number (at least any deviance that is discovered) will force the dealer to draw a penalty card from the spare pile.
- All moves must be completed within 4 seconds or the responsible player will be forced to draw a penalty card from the spare pile.
- Incorrect moves will force the responsible player to draw a penalty card from the spare pile.
- Players may not play "black on black" or avoid "+2" cards by playing any other card than another "+2".
- "+2" cards are cumulative and a player may avoid a "+2" placed on him/her by immediately playing a "+2" of his/her own. This causes the next player to have to pick up 4 cards unless he/she has a "+2" of his/her own. Any amount of "+2" cards may be played in this fashion - each adding 2 to the amount that some poor hapless soul has to collect...
- At any time a player may lay down more than one card. The cards being laid down must be identical in number and colour and are cumulative in that two freeze cards will freeze the next two players, two reverse cards will cause continuation in the same direction, etc. Black cards are not allowed to be placed down more than one at a time.
- Any 9 may be used to halt the game and swap the player's hand with that of any other player. The player must, on playing the 9, yell "Stop!" and is then allowed to change. A 9 may also be played as a normal card.
- Players are allowed to finish without announcing "Uno" if the last move is to play two identical cards. Note that black may not be used in this fashion.
- And the extension that makes it all worthwhile: At any time a player may "jump in front" of the player whose turn it is. The conditions for this are that the jumper must have a colour card identical to the one uppermost on the stack. Black cards are not allowed. Play then continues from the jumper. Note! Absolute chaos and undying hatred/love/damp patches may be earned by "jumping" a "+2" card.
The "Marcus" Modification
- A black card may only be played if no other card is able to be played. Any player laying a black is able to be challenged by another player. If the challenge is correct then the offending player will be forced to draw a penalty card from the spare pile.
Uno etiquette
- When a 9 has been played it is allowable for the unwilling donor to announce the contents of any hand with 2 or less cards.
- It is permissible to swear at other players.
- When a player has suffered a large increase to his/her hand play shall cease until such time she/he has sorted his/her hand to his/her satisfaction. "Satisfaction" in this context shall not include such acts as ramming the cards up the responsible player's bum.
