Geoff Buck became the king of the highlands in Genting, a beautiful mountain resort, 6000 feet above sea level and overlooking the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, by becoming the Malaysian master of the Asian Tour. Gerry Budgen was 6th.
The Scratch Bowlers Club (now the PTBC) had its fifth birthday tournament at Tolworth, in which Tubby Woo won. A 202.9 average was needed to make the final. Dave Maberley (current President of the PTBC), quoted «It's ridiculous, I've just averaged almost 200 and failed to make the cut» (the story of his life! Weally)

Kimberley Coote (now Oakley) received a silver medal for her performance in the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle.
The 1990 World Cup Qualifying round was held at Firth Park, Sheffield, with Roger Peartree and Gina Wardle winning their respective sections to represent Great Britain in Thailand.
'Jock' Caie, Tournament Director of the British Open, introduced white, yellow and red cards for slow bowlers (maybe the PTBC should use 'em?)

Phil Scammell finished second in the British Open. Poor old Phil has finished second in 1984, 1986, 1987, 1989 and now yet again. On all five occassions he was the top British player, beaten only by Adam Apo from the USA.
George Patel won his first major title in the Brunswick World Open and is off to represent Great Britain.
Whilst Kimberley Coote (now Oakley) and Phil Stein took the NST titles at Leeds, Gina Wardle and John Madeira took the PTBC titles at the Airport Bowl (not on the same weekend, of course). I would like to mention that Chris Buck came second, I don't have to, but as there wasn't a lot of news I thought I might as well fill up the page with secondary items! (Weally)

Richmond Grill takes the Scratch and Handicap Titles in the BTBA National Team event, with Mecca
Sport in 2nd place 19 pins behind.
Ian Nicholls dominates all events with a Scratch score of 1979 - 219.88 average.
Nev Robinson was winner of the handicap section of all the events.
Alan Fawcett won the scratch singles with a 681.
Ian Nicholls and Keith Porter (Mecca Sport) won both sections of the doubles.

The PTBC's tournament at Bitterne was won by Pauline Smith (now Buck) and Phil Scammell.
The JCP International Sixth British Matchplay Championship was hosted by Tolworth with the Finn Lasse Lintilae taking the winner's place on the rostrum. Second was Steve Davey and third Ron Oldfield. The Ladies' section was won by Maria Holmquist, with Gina Wardle runner-up, Jan Hodge in third place and Pauline Smith fourth.

Pauline Smith (now Buck) and Nev Robinson won the 1980 Match Play Championships at the Airport Bowl. Pauline averaged 199 over her 21 games and Nev averaged over 214.
The Norther Scratch Tour (NST) held its introductory tournament at Leeds with Nev Robinson coming out on top for the princely sum of £125.
Chris Wheeler accepted the post of Great Britain Team Manager (Arsene Wenger was furious...whoops, sorry, wrong sport!)

Neil Lever won the SBC (now PTBC) event at Worthing, averaging 203.71 over his 14 games in the final.
Stu Bradley took the NST title at Birmingham, averaging over 205 in the 3rd NST tournament.
The Europa Cup held in Rome saw Nev Robinson, Roy Bowers, Geoff Buck, Bernie Caterer, Alan Fawcett and Tommy Marshall take bronze medal. Italy edged out Great Britain for second place by superior pinfall, although both teams ended on 22 points.
