Picture Book 2 -- Early learning program suite

Size: four discs, Author: Tony Houghton, Graphics: Walter Briggs

A new version of one of the most popular educational programs for the very young. Picture Book 2 is a suite of six individual programs that introduce youngsters to words and numbers in an easy and enjoyable way.

The six programs that make up Picture Book 2 are designed to take children from their first keypress to their early schooldays.

The programs are:

Alphabet Book - An electronic ABC

Count'em - An introduction to numbers

Flashcard - Word recognition.

Spell it - Learning to spell

Snap - A matching game for up to three players

WordMatch - Matching words to sound and pictures

Options

Every program has extensive options, some of which are applied globally to all five programs while others are specific to the program itself. To make the suite even easier to use and allow it to be tailored to specific classes or even individual children the options can be saved as seperate files, and simply double-clicking on an option file can load the necessary program, load the correct alphabet file, set all the options as required and then start the program running.

Not only that but programs in the Picture Book 2 suite will run in any screen mode you choose without difficulty on anything from an A3000 up to the latest Acorn machines.

Alphabet files

All of the programs use a common Alphabet file which contains pictures, the spoken name and a sound effect of different words. The alphabet file supplied with the Picture Book 2 suite has been created with the help of leading graphic artist, Walter Briggs, using high quality ArtWorks files and professional sound effects, the words spoken clearly with a non-specific accent.

New alphabet files

It is the intention of RGSC to produce further, themed, alphabet files but a special program AlphaEdit is included with the package. This allows you to create your own selections using sounds and pictures you bring together yourself. AlphaEdit permits the use of standard Draw files instead of Artworks files if you wish.

Concept keyboards

The program interfaces with concept keyboards if needed and overlays can be designed to extend the power of the programs even further, allowing unnecessary use of the keyboard to be avoided in the very young.

Picture Book 2 runs on all Acorn RISC OS 3 computers and requires a minimum of 2Mb RAM; installation on a hard disk is recommended.
