NEWS

Visitors to Hawkshead will soon be able to discover street names from the village's past. 8 traditional street name plates are to be put up to help visitors identify streets shown in the town trail and give an insight into local history.
For example, the Wordsworth Street sign includes: "Formally, Rag and Putty Street," which marked the fact the road was home to a cobbler, tailor and putty maker.
Hawkshead Parish Council worked with the National Park Authority to provide the signs.
Parish chairman, Mark Whitehead said: "We will try anything that will help promote the village to tourists."

The Beatrix Potter Gallery

The Beatrix Potter Gallery is in the middle of the village. In it is a model of her husbands office and lots of pictures and sketches by Beatrix Potter herself.
