The Powerpuff Girls

This cartoon series about three very young super-heroes created by Professor Utonium is nicely offbeat, with some original twists on genre clichés and with a wicked sense of humour, including from the Narrator who opens and closes each episode. Even the episode titles show the same wacky humour and are often plays on words, such as Cat Man Do, Ice Sore, and Insect Inside. It was created by Craig McCracken, who with Genndy Tartakovsky (who also works on this series) put together the very popular Dexter's Laboratory, which was Genndy's idea. The villains they have to face are highly original too. Not only are there various monsters who come to attack their home town of Townsville, there are the Gangrene Gang, the Amoeba Boys, Fuzzy "Git offa mah property!" Lumkins, Sedusa, the arch-villain known simply as Him and the wonderfully-verbose "sinister simian", Mojo Jojo.

The daffy Mayor of Townsville has a hotline telephone to the Powerpuff residence, and he frequently calls on our three superheroes to save the day. Actually, that's about all he is capable of doing, and it is up to his very capable secretary Miss Bellum (whose face we never see) to run Townsville's affairs,
