During the latter part of the nineteenth century, James S Kerr of Glasgow published several collections of dance music, some of which became extrememly popular not only throughout Scotland, but all over the world. I have started an index of the tunes in these collection, annotated with notes about the backgrounds to the tunes and composers, alternative titles, related tunes, etc. Because there are hundreds of tunes in the nine books which make up the collection, I have split them into tune types.

Not much is known about James S Kerr, either the man or the publishing house. I will be researching these subjects at some point and adding what I find to these pages. If anyone can shed light, I'd be interested to hear about it.

All contributions, comments and criticisms are welcome (email me at gatherer@argonet.co.uk).
